Treasured Memories; The Sentinel; Saturday Fare;Page: TEEN SCENE

Student life is the best period of a person's life. One can hardly forget the sweet memories of one's student life, the great teachers, professors, the fun and frolic in the company of friends, etc.But student life is just a short phase of our life when we prepare ourselves for our future and as soon as the phase gets over, we find ourselves in the world of tough competitons where we struggle hard to craete a niche for ourselves in the society. Our daily hectic schedule, no doubt, makes us weary and depressed but whenever we ponder over the yester years, the bubbly days of student life flashes in our mind, there by bringing a smile on our faces.

It seems like it was just the other day when i got an admission in Cotton College. I was very excited and jubilant as I found my dream of studying in the premier educational institution in entire North-east, taking the shape of reality.

Life in Cotton College was really full of fun and I enjoyed every second of it. But time flew away so quickly that I couldn't even realize that my three years in college would come to an end so soon.

I remember each & every moment that I had spent in the Philosophy Department of Cotton College under the guidance of our wonderful professors who treated us just like their children. I can hardly forget our seniors who were so friendly and helpful. The moments spent in the company of my friends, the pranks we played on each other, the secrets that we shared, the time spent in the library, the college canteen, the coffee house and in the common room always singing and shouting, the gossips, the funny nicknames (viz., mango, haathi, champak, Mr. Confused, gabbar, etc.) given to some students by our gang will always remain in the storehouse of my memory to cheer me up whenever I feel lonely.

With a heavy heart,I've to say 'good-bye' to my college. I've to bid adieu to my teachers and I've to depart from my friends too. We've been together for three years and now life has brought us to a point where we have to leave each other and move forward towards our own destination in order to pursue our own dreams. We have to depart from each other, no doubt, but our lingering memories will always be there for uniting us in our thoughts.

If life is a journey, then I'm sure that someday we would meet again in the midst of our journey of Life. Until then, the treasured memories of our friendship will cheer us up.

Counselling programme; The Assam Tribune; Letters to the Editor; 29th July 2004

Sir,
A counselling programme for the IAS & other competitive examinations was held on July 10 & 11 in Cotton College which was organised by the All Guwahati Students' Union in collaboration with the Cotton College Union Society. The workshop was conducted by Shri Shashank Atme, an experienced expert and the Editor of the Competition Wizard.
The workshop proved to be very beneficial for the students who had various doubts & misgivings regarding the competitive examinations. The workshop not only boosted the confidence of the aspirants but also encouraged them to discover the hidden potential that lies within all of us.What is required is commitment, sincerity and dedication which can take one to the pinnacle of success.
Such workshops should be organised at regular intervals for motivating the IAS aspirants from assam and those who are preparing themselves for other competitive examinations.

Education Scene; The Assam Tribune; Letters to the Editor

Sir,
This refers to the news item, 'AASU blames government or pathetic state,' (AT, May 5).
The educational scenerio of the State is in a miserable condition. It seems that the State government is least bothered about it. Students are the future citizens of tomorrow. It is education which makes one a good & responsible citizen. The ongoing state of affairs reveal that the educational authorities are playing with the career of the students.
Non-availability of text books, erroneous question papers, teachers' strikes, delay in announcing the results, etc., are seriously affecting the career of numerous students.
This indifferent attitude of the authorities towards education should be checked immediately. The AASU leaders must take some severe steps in this regard.
Yours etc.,

Mother, Dear Mother; (The Sunday Tribune; 9th May 2004)

She can sacrifice all her joys
To bring a smile
On the face of her child...
One who's ever ready
To face all the sorrows
To free her Children from their woes,
One who never gets tired,
Fulfilling the wishes of her child,
Yes, she's called Ma, Mom or Mother-
The Greatest Gift of God to mankind.
Her Love for her children
Can't be described in words,
Happy Mother's Day 1
To all the Mothers of the world.

Ode to Mothers ...
She can sacrifice all her joys
To bring a smile
On the face of her child
One who's ever ready to face all the sorrows
To free her child from his woes
One who never gets tired
Fulfilling the wishes of her child
Yes, she's called 'Ma'. 'Mom' or 'Mother'-
The greatest gift of God to mankind
Her love for her children
Can't be described in words...
Happy Mother's day ....
To all the Mothers of the world.

People Speak; The Assam Tribune; Sunday Reading

Which is the Best Period of a person's life ?

I think youth is the best period of a person's life. It is that period when a sense of freedom and responsibility starts developing in us. Youth is that period of a person's life when he starts materialising the dreams of his childhood. A youth has a distinct goal before him.

Many poets have defined youth as the springtime of a person's life. Youth is that period when one attains mental maturity and wants to become self dependent. His power to think independently and imaginatively creates exciting possibilities for him to uplift things in life. A youth prefers to stand on his own feet with his head held high. He learns to accept the hard realities of life instead of building castles in the air. To face the challenges of life becomes the mission of his career. Thus, I think, the period of strength, vigour, hope, energy and enthusiasm is the best period of a person's life.

The Samaritan; Sunday Reading; The Assam Tribune

The Samaritan
He's a light for those
Who live in darkness,
He's a hope for those
Sinking in hopelessness
He helps those---
Who can't help themselves
He feeds those---\
Who can't feed themseves.
He wipes tears from the gloomy face.
And strives to bring a smile
On every visage.
He cares for the 'uncare for'
And lends a helping hand
To the needy and the poor.
He is the messenger of love and charity.
He's the Samaritan-the icon of humanity.

Hindi Movies; The Assam Tribune; Letters to the Editor; 14/11/03

Sir,
Through the columns of your esteemed daily I would like to express my opinion regarding the ban imposed on Hindi movies by ULFA and NDFB.
Hindi is our national language and it is our duty to respect our national language.Again, there are many Hindi speaking people in our State and it is not fair to deprive them from watching Hindi movies.
Instead of banning each and every Hindi flick, the ban should be imposed on the vulgar Hindi movies which cater to the vulgar taste.Films like Gadar,Lagan,Devdas are not harmful as there is no vulgarity in such movies. There is no justification in banning the 'A' grade Hindi movies.Instead they should ban the 'B' and 'C' grade movies which are leading the society astray.
Moreover, certain English movies portray more vulgarity compared to the Hindi movies. So why don't they impose the ban on English movies as well ?

Freedom Song ; The Assam Tribune

Freedom Song
Freedom , Violence, terror
Let's forget everything
Let's rejoice
Let's be gay...
On 15th August...
Our Independence day.
Let's remember those holy souls
Who sacrificed their lives
to achieve this 'goal'
Let's pay homage to their martyrdom...
Come let's celebrate...Let's celebrate our freedom
So sing the songs of freedom
With the music of love and unity...
Come let's celebrate
the victory of our country.

Is reading becoming a dying habit ?

I agree with the view that reading is becoming a dying habit. In this hectic modern life, people don't have time for leisure and even if they do they would prefer spending it by surfing the net or by hanging out with friends.

Forget the grown-ups, even the youngsters are busy in building their career on the basis of knowledge gathered from their school-books. The question of reading books other than text books doesn't arise owing to shortage of time. Consequently, what they acuire is lomited knowledge which does not help them in the long run.

Reading is a good hobby which unfolds a vast area of knowledge. It gives one immense pleasure & mental satisfaction, Parents should divert the attention of their children towards reading more useful books along with story books, novels, poetry, etc, in order to protect this habit from dying.
